One of the most successful softball teams in California State University, Northridge history is going to take a bow this weekend, and there could be more to celebrate than the final regular-season home games for seniors Brianna Elder, Kaitlin Toerner, Jordan Sauceda and Crystal Maas on May 1 and 2 at Matador Diamond.

Before the season, the Matadors set the goal of reaching 40 wins, and going into the weekend at 39-11, they have three shots against the University of Hawaii to reach that goal first time during Head Coach Tairia Flowers’ five seasons at CSUN. And with a 14-1 record in the Big West, the Matadors have a commanding five-game lead and their magic number to clinch the conference title sits at two. After the second game of the Saturday doubleheader, which starts at 1 p.m., the seniors will be honored.

Leading the charge for the seniors this season is ace pitcher Brianna Elder, who is 17-4 with a 2.13 ERA and 172 strikeouts in 161 innings. She was All-Big West first team in 2014.

The Matadors also have the reigning USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week, as freshman Savannah Horvath batted .750 with three extra-base hits and three RBI as CSUN posted its first series victory against rival Long Beach State since the 2002 season.
