Faculty and Staff Awards for May 2018
Each month, California State University, Northridge faculty and staff receive funding from outside organizations to support unique programs and cutting-edge research facilitated on campus. Below are a list of the individuals who received awards in May 2018.

Beth Lasky (Department of Special Education) received $24,831 from the University of Massachusetts in support of a project entitled “CSUN Inclusive Project.”
Karin Crowhurst (Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry) received $97,875 from the National Institutes of Health in support of a project entitled “In vitro and in-cell investigation of the acid-stress chaperone HdeA .”
Dong-Ning Sheng (Department of Physics & Astronomy) received $539,996 from The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford, Jr. University in support of a project entitled “SCIDAC: Topological and Correlated Matter via Tensor Networks and Quantum Monte Carlo.”
Regan Maas (Department of Department of Geography and Environmental Studies) received $53,000 from Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in support of a project entitled “Operational Evapotranspiration for the State of New Mexico.”
Shari Tarver-Behring (Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling) received $46,080 from Friends of the Family in support of a project entitled “Friends of the Family Subcontract for Prevention and Aftercare Services/Activities.”
Suzanne Spear (Department of Health Sciences) received $14,029 from the University of Southern California (USC) in support of a project entitled “Measuring Sustainment in Prevention Programs and Initiatives.”
Julian Lozos (Department of Geological Sciences) received $14,545 from the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) in support of a project entitled “The Effects of Separation and Dip Angle on Jumping Rupture in Thrust Faults.”
Dr. José Luis Benavides (Department of Journalism) received $315,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities in support of a project entitled “Proposal for Creating a Digital Database of the Richard Cross Photographic Collection at the Tom & Ethel Bradley Center at California State University, Northridge.”
Behzad Bavarian (Department of Manufacturing Systems Engineering & Management) received $15,000 from the Faraday Future in support of a project entitled “Metallurgical analysis and microstructural studies of different combination of multi-metal joints (RWS).”
Elena Miranda (Department of Geological Sciences) received $127,891 from the National Science Foundation in support of a project entitled “Collaborative Research: Strain Localization, Shear Zone Connectivity, and Magma-Deformation Interactions by Depth Within a 65 km Thick Transpressional Continental Arc.”
Radha Ranganathan (Department of Physics & Astronomy) received $435,000 from the National Institutes of Health in support of a project entitled “Membrane Deformation and Mechanism of Stimulation of Phospholipase A2 by Oxidized Lipids.”
Shari Tarver-Behring (Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling) received $24,900 from the Friends of the Family in support of a project entitled “Relative Support Services.”
Dr. Richard Moore (Department of Management) received $129,494 from the City of Los Angeles in support of a project entitled “Program Evaluation and Customer Satisfaction Surveys.”

Nhut Ho (Department of Mechanical Engineering) received $250,434 from the US Airforce Office of Scientific Research in support of a project entitled “An Experimental Investigation of how Robotic Learning and Cloud-Based Information Affects Trust in Human-Machine Teaming Contexts.”
Maria-Rita D’Orsogna (Department of Mathematics) received $103,418 from the National Science Foundation in support of a project entitled “Collaborative Research: Understanding Generation, Maintenance, and Dynamics of Immune Diversity via Clone-Count Models.”
