Kathryn Sorrells.

Kathryn Sorrells, professor emerita of communication studies — who co-founded CSUN’s Civil Discourse and Social Change initiative — has created an endowment fund for social justice with a significant gift, bolstered with an additional gift in her estate plans.

The gifts will support opportunities for social justice education and activism for students and faculty in the Department of Communication Studies in the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication, including scholarships, guest speakers and research projects.

Sorrells, who taught at CSUN from 1999 to 2023, has a passion for teaching and learning about issues of culture, race, gender, sexuality and social justice with people of all ages and in a variety of educational settings. Sorrells established this new endowment to carry on her work and further social justice on campus and in the community, educating students for a multicultural world.

To contribute to the Kathryn Sorrells Endowment for Social Justice or to create a fund of your own, please contact the CSUN Office of Development at (818) 677-7586 or development@csun.edu.
