Proving that a Matador can excel under water as well as they do on land, Lindsy Nelson and Marisa Young were named ACWPC Water Polo Honorable Mention All-Americans by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. The honor comes on the heels of the duo also being named All-League by the Big West Conference.

The two dynamos were the top two scorers on a Matador team that went 23-12 in 2013. Nelson was the team’s top scorer, netting 70 goals, good for a team-best and fifth in the conference. Young’s 50 goals put her second on the team and 11th in the Big West.

Nelson and Young are the eighth members of the CSUN water polo program to be named All-Americans by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). The others are Allison Brookes (three-time All-American in 2006, 2007, 2008); Chari Christopher (All-American in 2005); Chelsea Curran (All-American in 2008); Jessica Coy (All-American in 2009); Whitney Delgado (two-time All-American in 2010, 2011); Sydney Sonoda (three-time All-American in 2009, 2010, 2011; and Jillian Stapf (three-time All-American in 2008, 2009, 2010).

In 2013, Nelson was a junior majoring in kinesiology, while Young was a sophomore majoring in marine biology.
