Nominations Open for CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame

Nominations for the class of 2016 for the The Matador Hall of Fame are now being accepted. The Hall of Fame honors outstanding former CSUN student-athletes for their accomplishments on and off the field and their dedication to CSUN Athletics. A nominee must have competed, coached for or rendered extraordinary service to California State University Northridge.

Any nominee must be at least five years removed from their role at the university to be eligible and can be a former student-athlete, team, coach or administrator. Nominations close on Sept. 1 with the full class expected to be revealed in October.

“CSUN Athletics has a rich history of success on and off the field and we’re proud to honor select outstanding alumni as members of the Matador Hall of Fame,” said CSUN Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brandon Martin. “I encourage all friends, fans and supporters of CSUN to nominate their favorite deserving Matador today.”

To nominate an individual or team for consideration, please complete the attached form and send it back to CSUN Senior Associate Athletics Director/Development Tom Ford via email at tom.ford@csun.edu or regular mail. All submissions must be made to the committee by Sept. 1, 2015.

In 2014, CSUN inducted Cliff Abel (men’s track & field head coach), Markus Carr (men’s basketball), Lisa Erickson (softball) and Tereza Simonyan (women’s tennis) into the Matador Hall of Fame. The 2012 class consisted of Bill Cullum (men’s golf head coach), Larry Ramirez (baseball), John Tronson (men’s soccer) and the 1983 softball team (Division II National Champions).

Other distinguished members of the Matador Hall of Fame include Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Broadcaster Dick Enberg (special inductee), Olympian Julie Brown (track & field), Joyce Deese Benson (women’s golf), Brien Heinle (basketball) and more.

No more than five individuals or one team per year will be inducted to the Hall of Fame. A person may not nominate themselves. Nominees not selected will automatically be considered for three years, after which they must be re-nominated.

A banquet to honor the inductees will take place in January 2016 with more information to be announced once the class is selected.
