CSUN Event to Explore the Future of Health and Nutrition Policies

California State University, Northridge faculty and students invite members of the public to join them as they explore ways to influence positive community action and education in the areas of nutrition and public health policies.

The CSUN Nutrition and Health Public Policy Event is scheduled to take place Monday, April 21, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in CSUN’s Northridge Center, located on the east side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff Street in Northridge.

“This workshop will provide hands on information for students and community members, updating them on current bills while showcasing our student’s public policy efforts,” said Annette Besnilian, director of CSUN’s Dietetic Internship Program.

The Dietetic Internship Program, Marilyn Magaram Center, the student honor society Kappa Omicron Nu and the Northeast Valley Health Corporation WIC program are collaborating with CSUN’s Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing, and Department of Health Sciences Master of Public Health Program to implement actions that the community can take regarding public policies that affect nutrition, public health and education.

Among those scheduled to speak are Congressman Tony Cardenas and Councilmember Felipe Fuentes, as well as representatives from the American Heart Association, LA County Department of Public Health and the California Youth Advocacy Network.

Registration will open at 8 a.m. with presentations starting promptly at 8:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.
