CSUN Forum to Bring Judges and the Public Together

The event, is scheduled to take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Grand Salon located in the University Student Union on the east side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

“We hold this event every year as an out-growth of the department’s Judicial Internship Program,” said Lawrence Becker, c¸hair of CSUN’s Department of Political Science. “It provides a way for members of the court, who generally do not interact with the public outside the confines of the courtroom, to answer questions from the public and, of course, from students. The goal is to make judges, the courts and the court system more transparent to the public.

“Despite the profusion of legal dramas on television, the courts are arguably the least understood of the major institutions of government,” he continued. “This evening is an opportunity for judges to explain how the courts and the legal system operate, and what their jobs as judges are like.”

About a dozen Los Angeles Superior Court judges, most from the San Fernando Valley, are expected to take part.
