Public, member-supported 88.5 FM,Southern California’s leading Triple-A (adult album alternative) format radio station, has announced that afternoon-drive host Andy Chanley has taken on the music director duties at the station.

The station is a combined effort of California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and Saddleback College, which began simulcasting as 88.5 FM in October 2017, linking together the Los Angeles County- and Orange County-based signals.

“Andy has done it all in this market — mornings, middays, afternoon drive — and has vast experience in all the rock format genres,” said 88.5 FM General Manager Patrick Osburn. “We are fortunate to have Mark ‘Mookie’ Kaczor at the program director post, and Andy working closely with him on music. They are a real one-plus-one-equals-three kind of complement to each other. I’m happy to say we are operating at full strength with great, experienced broadcasters in every position.”

A 30-year radio veteran, Chanley joined 88.5 FM nearly two years ago at a time when the signals in Los Angeles and Orange County were synchronized and Entercom’s 100.3, “The Sound,” signed off as a result of its merger with CBS. 88.5 FM officials immediately invited Chanley to join the station at a time when it was facing an exciting crossroads.

“There’s no station in the world like 88.5 FM,” Chanley said. “It’s a special blend of music and people — on both sides of the transmitter — that makes radio fun again. I’m really proud to be on this team, and beyond excited at the opportunity to help steer the rudder even more.”

Chanley has previously provided radio consulting and imaging for stations, and also is an accomplished voice actor for radio, television, video games and film.

88.5 FM is a service of California State University, Northridge and Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. The station offers a 24-hour, commercial-free blend of rock, alternative, soul, blues and Americana. It features a wide range of artists, such as U2, Bruce Springsteen, Jack White, Arcade Fire, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Alabama Shakes, The War on Drugs, The National, Sheryl Crow, Bob Marley and David Bowie. The station’s Triple-A programming also is available on the KCSN and KSBR 88.5 HD1 channels, via the 88.5 app, and online at www.885FM.org.
