KCSN Earns “Best In L.A.” Accolades from L.A. Weekly
It has been an exciting year for the California State University, Northridge campus radio station KCSN (88.5). First, widely regarded broadcaster Nic Harcourt—who is widely credited with launching the careers of Adele, Coldplay, The Black Keys, M.I.A., Norah Jones, Florence and The Machine, Arcade Fire and countless others—decided to join the non-commercial station as its morning host. Manager and Program Director Sky Daniels was nominated in May as Public Radio Program Director of the Year by the influential trade publication FMQB. Now, CSUN’s is garnering even wider acclaim as the popular L.A. Weekly magazine highlighted the station in its 2013 “Best in L.A.” edition.
Under the heading “Best Public Radio Station You’re Not Already Listening to,” the paper writes:
“The station digs up deep cuts from well-known classic acts and features niche-y shows in the categories of roots, bluegrass and the blues, along with time slots devoted solely to Dylan and The Beatles,” the listing notes. “KCSN keeps it current, too, playing promising up-and-comers with a focus on local acts via the Kevin Bronson–hosted L.A. Buzz Bands.”
It’s an honor that Daniels is happy to have. “KCSN feels incredibly honored to be named ‘Best Of L.A.’ in the annual L.A. Weekly ‘Best Of’ issue,” he said. “In just two years, KCSN is being recognized by one of Los Angeles media’s cultural touchstones as ‘the best.’ As befits KCSN’s sense of self, this is a newspaper with cutting-edge media musings that you can read in your neighborhood Norm’s.”
