Matador Emily Kelley Honored at First Annual Geekie Awards
It wasn’t very long ago that people didn’t want to be called a geek, let alone self-identify themselves as one. However, with the worlds of technology and comic books becoming a regular part of our lives through popular culture, a movement was created: the geek movement. Now, geeks’ fill the airwaves on shows like “The Big Bang Theory” and “Mythbusters,” and, well, everywhere on the Internet, but especially on the blog circuit.
That is where current California State University, Northridge journalism student Emily Kelley writes the Wrong Button blog, [Link: http://wrongbuttonblog.com] a collection of her “geeky” musings. The popular site was nominated for a Geekie Award in the Retail Stores and Websites category and picked up a pre-award for Geekiest Content. Although Wrong Button didn’t end up taking the Retail Stores and Websites category crown this past weekend, a note posted on the site showed how amazed Kelley and her partner, Peter Kunin, felt to be considered.
“[W]e couldn’t be more excited,” Kelley wrote on the site. “We’re so honored to be included in such [an] amazing group of independent creators, and we’ve been geeking out over all of the awesome geeky celebrities we’ll be able to see at the show.”
Those celebrities included actor Seth Green, Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee and “Battlestar Galactica”’s Richard Hatch.
