The American Indian Student Association and Associated Students present “Haku,” a discussion with Georgian Sanchez, Deborah Sanchez and John Moreno who are Chumash and instrumental in the revival and preservation of the Chumash language. Distinguished Visitor’s Speaker Series
The Department of Pan African Studies’ W.E.B. DuBois-Fannie Lou Hamer Institute will host presentation by Joseph L. Pan African Studies Anniversary Celebration
The Department of Pan African Studies hosts 44th anniversary will feature scholar-activist and author of “We Will Shoot Back: Armed Resistance in the Mississippi Movement” Akinyele Umoja. He will deliver a public lecture from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the University Student Union’s Thousand Oaks Room, followed by a book signing reception in Sierra Hall 181 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Unified We Serve
Unified We Serve kicks off its annual clothing and food drive on Nov. 4. Faculty, staff and students can place items in bins located throughout campus until Nov. 13. A closing ceremony will take place at noon on Nov. 13 on the steps of the Oviatt Library.

Roll Call – Veteran’s Day Event


The Veterans Resource Center will host a Veteran’s Day event that will include a roll call of fallen veterans, men and women who have lost their lives in combat from 9/11 to the present. The event will take place outside the University Student Union from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

International Education Week
International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This is a joint initiative by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education as a part of their efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States. The event will take place in various locations on campus.

Flu Shots Available by Appointment
This year’s seasonal influenza (flu) vaccine will be available for all CSUN students, faculty and staff by appointment beginning Sept. 24 at the Klotz Student Health Center. The vaccine may provide protection against three strains of influenza viruses. The cost is $15.

University Counseling Center Open House for Faculty and Staff
Faculty or staff member are a key contributor to student success and as such wear many hats! The University Counseling Center’s professional staff is available as consultants to collaborate with you in your roles as professor, administrator, advisor, counselors and/or leader of students. Our hours of operation for the month of October are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Bayramian Hall 520. Consultation involves a collegial relationship in which the consultant(s) deal exclusively with your work-related or student issues. Services are free and available to any academic department or administrative unit, as well as any individual staff or faculty members.

2014 Faculty Retreat
The 2014 Faculty Retreat “CSUN Shines: Community Engagement,” will be held Jan. 13 and 14. The first day of the event will take place on the CSUN campus but the second day will move off camput with a visit to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. The deadline to register is Dec. 2.
