Roll Call – Veteran’s Day Event

The Veterans Resource Center will host a Veteran’s Day event that will include a roll call of fallen veterans — men and women who have lost their lives in combat from 9/11 to the present. The event will take place outside the University Student Union from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Bianchi Planetarium
Come and learn about stars, constellations and planets visible in the sky during autumn at “Autumn Sky Show,” which takes place at 7:30 p.m. It is followed by “Radar Imaging of Near-Earth Asteroids.” General admission tickets are $6 for one show, $10 for two shows; students are $4 for one show and $7 for two shows.

Unified We Serve kicked off its annual clothing and food drive on Nov. 4. Faculty, staff and students can place items in bins located throughout campus until Nov. 13. A closing ceremony will take place at noon on Nov. 13 on the steps of the Oviatt Library.

International Education Week
International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This is a joint initiative by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education as a part of their efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States. The event will take place in various locations on campus.

Screening of Film About the Founding of the Department of Chicana/o Studies
The screening of the documentary, “Unrest: Founding of the Cal State Northridge Chicana/o Studies Department,” will take place at 6 p.m. in the Ferman Presentation Room in the Delmar T. Oviatt Library. Filmmaker Miguel Duran will answer questions about the film, which shares the story of a group of students and faculty who sacrificed and fought the school’s administration for the opportunity to teach Chicana/o studies.

The Business of Athletics
Join the CSUN Alumni Association at a panel presentation examining the athletics industry from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the University Student Union’s Grand Salon. Department of Pan African Studies: Bi-Annual Men of Color Enquiry and Student Poster Session
Dyrell Foster, dean of students at Rio Hondo College, will discuss “Understanding the Student Engagement Experiences of African-American Males” on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the University Student Union’s Grand Salon. The event will include poster presentations on black men from students enrolled in the Pan African studies class “Black Men in Contemporary Times.”

Flu Shots Available by Appointment
This year’s seasonal influenza (flu) vaccine are available now until supplies run out for all CSUN students, faculty and staff by appointment at the Klotz Student Health Center. The vaccine may provide protection against three strains of influenza viruses. The cost is $15.

University Counseling Center Open House for Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff members are a key contributor to student success and as such wear many hats! The University Counseling Center’s professional staff is available as consultants to collaborate with you in your roles as professors, administrators, advisors, counselors and/or leaders of students. The center’s hours of operation for the month of October are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Bayramian Hall 520. Consultation involves a collegial relationship in which the consultant(s) deal exclusively with your work-related or student issues. Services are free and available to any academic department or administrative unit, as well as any individual staff or faculty members.

Information Session
The Tseng College hosts a free information session for CSUN’s M.A. in Psychology: Behavioral Clinical Psychology program, from 6-8 p.m., at the University Club’s Orange Grove Bistro. The Tseng College offers a graduate credit certificate in business administration for non-business majors as a pathway to an MBA program, with a Nov. 15 deadline to apply for the spring 2014 semester.  2014 Faculty Retreat
The 2014 Faculty Retreat “CSUN Shines: Community Engagement” will be held Jan. 13 and 14. The first day of the event will take place on the CSUN campus, but the second day will move off camput with a visit to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. The deadline to register is Dec. 2.
