History Keepers: Storied Objects from Los Angeles

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences is promoting an exhibit highlighting artifacts from Los Angeles’s past. “Curious objects,” including scrapbooks, photographs, documents and other goods are on display at the Pico House in Los Angeles.

The exhibit is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is located on 424 North Main St., Los Angeles.

New Faculty Orientation

California State University, Northridge’s new faculty are invited to attend the annual New Faculty Orientation. The orientation takes place Wednesday, Aug. 19 and Thursday, Aug. 20 in the Oviatt Library’s Presentation Room. New faculty should RSVP by completing this survey.

President’s Annual Convocation

CSUN President Dianne F. Harrison will give her annual welcome address, which will include a review of the campus’ past year’s accomplishments, as well as a look into the year ahead. The event will be held at the Valley Performing Arts Center at 9 a.m., followed by a reception with light refreshments.

Jack Kirby Art Exhibit

California State University, Northridge faculty and staff are invited to visit the United States’ largest-ever exhibit of comic creator and legend Jack Kirby. The exhibit will be held at California State University, Northridge’s Art Galleries.

Raised Bed Gardening

The CSUN Botanic Garden is hosting a free tutorial on raised bed gardening. The event is part of the garden’s CSUN-al Gardening Series, which provides classes on different gardening techniques. The event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m.

Rainbow Reception

The CSUN Pride Center and LGBTQ Alumni Association are having a rainbow reception in the University Student Union’s Northridge Center from 5 to 7:30 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet faculty, staff and students within the LGBTQA community. Refreshments will be served.

Faculty and staff are invited to attend the annual Freshman Convocation at the Oviatt Library Lawn at 6 p.m. Author of the 2015 freshman common reading “Every Day” David Levithan will present the keynote speech.

The annual CSUN Founder’s Day celebration will be held at the USU East Conference Center from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Former CSUN faculty, staff and alumni will be honored at the event. The registration cost is $35 per person and is free for 50-year club inductees.

Faculty and Staff Appointments

Amy Levin — Appointment

Amy Levin has been reappointed for a three-year term as chair of the Department of Social Work, effective Aug. 19. The position will hold until the conclusion of the 2017–2018 academic year.

Shari Tarver-Behring — Appointment

Shari Tarver-Behring has been reappointed for a three-year term as chair of the Department of Educational Psychology, effective Aug. 19. The position will hold until the conclusion of the 2017–2018 academic year.

Doris Helfer — Appointment

Doris Helfer has been appointed as chair of the Department of Collection Access and Management Services for the Oviatt Library, effective July 1. The position will hold until the conclusion of the 2016 –2017 academic year.

Katherine Dabbour — Appointment

Katherine Dabbour has been appointed as chair of the Department of Research, Instruction and Outreach Services for the Oviatt Library, effective July 1. The position will hold until the conclusion of the 2017–2018 academic year.

Patricia Seymour — Appointment

Patricia Seymour has been appointed to a three-year term as Chair of the Communication Disorders and Sciences, effective Aug. 19. The position will hold until the conclusion of the 2017 – 2018 academic year.

Jody Dunlap — Appointment

Jody Dunlap has been appointed to a three-year term as chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, effective Aug. 19. The position will hold until the conclusion of the 2017 – 2018 academic year.

Linda Bowen — Appointment

Linda Bowen has been reappointed to a three-year term as chair of the Department of Journalism, effective Aug. 19. The position will hold until the conclusion of the 2017 – 2018 academic year.

 

 Policy Revisions

President Dianne F. Harrison and the Faculty Senate approved Section 604 of the Administrative Manual on Professional Responsibility and the 2015 – 2016 Academic Year Calendar of Personnel Procedures on May 15, 2015.
