Classical, Broadway Talent Are Part of VPAC’s January Calendar

The Valley Performing Arts Center at California State University, Northridge will present an eclectic mix of classical, legendary Broadway and emerging talent as part of its offerings in January 2014 The following is a list of January events for daily and Sunday calendar listings:

  • On Saturday, Jan. 18, at 8 p.m., KUSC presents the “Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Pinchas Zukerman, principal guest conductor and violinist, and Amanda Forsyth, cello.” The program will feature selections from Bach, Schoenberg and Brahms.
  • “Chita: A Legendary Celebration,” featuring Broadway legend Chita Rivera, will take place on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m. An accomplished and versatile actress/singer/dancer, Chita Rivera has won two Tony Awards as best leading actress in a musical and received several Tony nominations.
  • Seven local high schools will join forces for the San Fernando Valley’s first-ever high school music theater showcase, “It’s Showtime, Folks: Celebrating 60 years of Bob Fosse,” on Friday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. The evening will feature performances from “The Pajama Game,” “Chicago,” “Kiss Me Kate,” “Sweet Charity” and other Fosse shows.

The 1,700-seat Valley Performing Arts Center has established California State University, Northridge as a hub for culture and performing arts in the region. It was recently voted one of the top 10 performing arts centers and theaters in Los Angeles by Time Out Los Angeles.
