California State University, Northridge’s David Nazarian College of Business and Economics was selected to host the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) National Conference in January 2018.

CSUN competed against nationally and internationally recognized universities across the nation to win the honor.

“The Nazarian College is proud to host the USASBE conference here in Southern California,” said Kenneth R. Lord, dean of the college. “In welcoming to Los Angeles many of the world’s leading experts in entrepreneurship, we look forward to the opportunity to highlight the rich entrepreneurial activity of this region and CSUN’s thriving culture of innovation.”

The college, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is recognized for excellence by multiple external organizations. Its accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International places it among the top 5 percent of global business degree-granting institutions. It is regularly featured in “Princeton Review’s list of Best Business Schools, and its part-time MBA program is considered one of the best in the country by “U.S. News & World Report.”

“The fact that the Nazarian College will be hosting this conference makes CSUN even more visible regionally and nationally,” said management

professor Lois Shelton. “This opportunity will help the business school showcase the enthusiasm of its students and the expertise of its faculty. Not only does the conference benefit the Nazarian College and CSUN, but it highlights the thriving Los Angeles entrepreneurial environment. Los Angeles was ranked one of the 10 hottest startup ecosystems in the world by Sparklabs Global Ventures.”

Shelton credited entrepreneur and philanthropist David Nazarian, a CSUN alumnus, with helping to secure the conference. “Mr. Nazarian is an incredible partner,” said Shelton. “I am very grateful for his continuous involvement and support.”

Every year roughly 500 to 600 entrepreneurship educators and scholars from across the nation and around the globe attend the USASBE National Conference. USASBE provides workshops, speakers and networking opportunities to generate state-of-the-art insights, applications in entrepreneurship research and teaching for academics, consultants and business owners alike. USASBE was founded in 1957 and is the largest independent, professional, educational organization in the world, dedicated to advancing the discipline of entrepreneurship.
