Faculty and Staff Awards for August 2017
Each month, California State University, Northridge faculty and staff receive funding from outside organizations to support unique programs and cutting-edge research facilitated on campus. Below are a list of the individuals who received awards in August 2017.

Sharlene Katz and James Flynn (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering) received $15,000 from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in support of a project entitled “Model Verification for In-Space Hybrid CubeSat, CSUNSat1.”
Paula Fischhaber (Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry) received $87,145 from the National Institutes of Health in continuing support of a project entitled “Recruitment of Rad 10 in Double-strand Break Repair.”
Rachel Friedman-Narr and Ellen Schneiderman (Department of Special Education) received $250,000 from the US Department of Education in support of a project entitled “IDEP: Interdisciplinary Deaf Education Teacher Preparation”.
Steven Loy (Department of Kinesiology) received $70,000 from the American Council on Exercise in support of a project entitled “3 WINS ACE.”
Luciana Lagana (Department of Psychology) received $108,750 from the NIH in support of a project entitled “A Preliminary Model of Physical Pain among community-dwelling multiethnic older women.”
Richard Moore (Department of Management) received $267,490 from the City of Los Angeles in support of a project entitled “L.A. City Gang Injunction Settlement Evaluation.”
Yann Schrodi (Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry) received $108,750 from the National Institutes of Health in continuing support of a project entitled “New Robust Olefin Metathesis Catalysts Based on Non-Toxic and Abundant Low-Valent Molybdenum.”
Debi Prasad Choudhary (Department of Physics and Astronomy) received $96,135 from the National Science Foundation in continuing support of a project entitled “Three-dimensional thermal and magnetic structure of sunspots and active regions.”
Deqing Ren (Department of Physics and Astronomy) received $159,537 from the National Science Foundation in continuing support of a project entitled “Development of a device for measuring turbulence in the air above telescopes that observe the sun.”
Ivor Weiner (Department of Special Education) received $115,413 from the North Los Angeles County Regional Center-NLACRC in support of a project entitled “Family Focus Resource Center.”
Kathryn Peckham-Hardin (Department of Special Education) received $249,611 from the US Department of Education in support of a project entitled “Project I-PREP: Inclusive Preparation for Resourceful and Effective Professionals.”
Sattar Taheri-Araghi (Department of Physics and Astronomy) received $435,000 from the National Institutes of Health in support of a project entitled “Dynamics of the Activity of Antimicrobial Peptides at the Population and the Single-Cell Levels.”
Shari Tarver-Behring (Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling) received $514,922 from the California Victim Compensation Board in support of a project entitled “CalVCB California Trauma Recovery Center Grant.”
Steven Dudgeon (Department of Biology) received $268,726 from the National Science Foundation in continuing support of a project entitled “LTREB Renewal: Experimental tests of alternative states on rocky intertidal shores.”
