The California State University, Northridge softball team is off to its best start in 21 years, winning 12 of its first 15 games with a combination of hot hitting and shutdown pitching. And after doing so much damage on the road, the Matadors get to come back to campus for their home opener on Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. against St. John’s.

Katie Hooper is off to a sizzling start, hitting .400 with five home runs and 19 RBI in the first 14 games of the season. Taylor Glover has been a dual threat at the plate and on the bases, hitting .388 with two homers, 10 stolen bases and a team-best 16 runs scored. Maylynn Mitchell was named Big West Player of the Week the opening week of the season, and is hitting .350 with two homers and 14 RBI.

On the mound, senior Brianna Elder is 5-1 with a 2.69 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 41.2 innings. Freshman Zoe Conley is the other half of half of the one-two punch, going 4-1 with a 1.33 ERA.
