CSUN StoryCube Project
Share the highlights of your university experience with the CSUN StoryCube Project to help preserve the oral history of our campus by recording the memories of faculty, staff and students. The StoryCube booth is set up near the front entrance of the Matador Bookstore, and interviews can be scheduled Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 29 to May 10 and Commencement Week, May 21 to 23. To set up an interview time, please email the StoryCube staff at storycube@csun.edu. You make the university what it is today, so help us document what it means to be a part of the CSUN community.

2013 MFA/MA Thesis Exhibition
Join the fourth annual Graduate Thesis Exhibition at the opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Art Galleries. The exhibition will showcase a stunning array of work from a diversity of disciplines that are a culmination of intensive study and experimentation in partial fulfillment of the thesis requirements for the MFA and MA degrees. In conjunction with the Graduate Thesis Exhibition, both graduating and matriculating students will open their studios and invite visitors to engage in a deeper conversation of the concepts and processes behind the work.

Honored Faculty Reception
The annual Honored Faculty Reception will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Grand Salon, University Student Union.  Faculty awards will be presented for Outstanding Faculty; Distinguished Teaching, Counseling, or Librarianship; Scholarly Publication; Creative Accomplishment; Extraordinary Service; and Visionary Community Service-Learning.   Emeritus professors and faculty completing milestone years of service will be honored.  A continental breakfast will be served. Join this year’s student team of matador motorsports by attending this fundraiser at the MB2 Raceway on 1475 Lawrence Drive, Thousand Oaks, Calif. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Auto setup time is from 7 to 8 a.m. Admission is free for spectators, but registration is $20 for all vehicles and $15 for motorcycles. Brown Bag Spring 2013 – Research Seminar Series
The College of Engineering and Computer Science is hosting a research seminar series every Tuesday in Jacaranda Hall, conference room JD1568 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Each series, which will run now through May 7, will feature different faculty members to share their work. Dealing with Workplace Violence and Fear of Threats of Violence
All interested faculty and staff are welcome to attend this two-part workshop starting with Part I, on May 1 from 9 to 10:30 a.m., designed to familiarize you with the range of university resources available and how to activate those resources when responding to a variety of behaviors that are cause for concern. Part II will take place on May 7 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and will deal with the worst case scenario of an active shooter situation on campus. In order to attend Part II, you will need to attend Part I both in the 2nd Floor Training Room of the Department of Police Services. Seating is limited, to register for Part I visit here. Shifting from Savings to Spending
This workshop, open to faculty and staff, is designed to help employees transition from saving for retirement to spending in retirement from 9 to 10 a.m. in the HR Training Room, Oviatt 16. This workshop is designed for employees who are less than 2 years from retirement, over 55 years old and who have an income plan in place. Sign up to attend online.

How to Plan What’s Best for You in Years to Come
This session from 2 to 3 p.m. in the HR Training Room, Oviatt 16 examines retirement planning at all stages. Specifically, this workshop will help to identify savings gaps that can prevent from reaching retirement goals; demonstrate how important it is to choose income options based upon individual needs; and provide a comprehensive discussion of income options offered by TIAA-CREF. Registration Continues for Summer Session
Summer Session registration continues for Summer Session classes at CSUN. Summer Session one runs May 28 through August 20. Summer Session two runs May 28 through July 9. Summer Session three runs July 10 through August 20. Students do not have to be regularly enrolled at CSUN to take Summer classes, so long as they meet course prerequisites. Summer Session information is posted on the Tseng College website.

CSU Employee Update
Attached you will find the most recent California State University Employee Update provided by the CSU Chancellor’s Office for all employees. It contains information about the CSU’s budget plans presented at the March 2013 Board of Trustees meeting, and information about several CSU system activities and recognitions. Of note, CSUN received “Honor Roll with Distinction” in the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, which annually commends colleges and universities that achieve meaningful and measurable outcomes in the communities they serve.

Drug-Free Campus and Workplace Policy Information
The Office of Human Resources hosts a website that features useful information about work-related problems and health risks associated with alcohol and other drug abuse problems. Permit-less Parking at the Orange Grove Bistro
The Department of Police Services, Parking and Transportation Services Division, is happy to announce a new permit-less vehicle identification system for guests of the Orange Grove Bistro. Implemented on April 15, guests of the Orange Grove Bistro can avoid having to place a parking permit on their vehicle by simply letting the receptionist inside the Bistro know what stall number they are parked in, as well as the color and make of the vehicle. Bistro staff will input this information into a data base which Parking Enforcement Officers will access and use to verify those vehicles authorized to park in the Bistro parking stalls. Condolences
Colleen Schaeffer ‘93
The campus community extends deep condolences to the family and friends of alumna Colleen Schaeffer ’90 (English Literature), M.A. ’93 (English) who passed away on March 25 with her husband in a single-car accident. She was a well-loved longtime member of the lecturing faculty who retired in 2007. She was known for her indefatigable energy, her early pioneering and seminal contributions to online instruction, her tireless devotion to students, and her humor, warmth and very good friendship.
