Condolences

Samuel R. Pinneau
The campus community extends deep condolences to the family of Samuel R. Pinneau, who passed away peacefully on April 23 in his Northridge home. Pinneau’s original goals during his instructing career at CSUN was to develop a Child Study Center, which he and his graduate students nicknamed the “Childless Study Center,” since it was filled more with data in IBM punchcard boxes than actual children. He taught at CSUN from 1962–1983. He earned the Outstanding Professor Award in 1999 in recognition of his achievements.

Mack Johnson
The campus community extends deep condolences to the family of Mack Johnson, associate vice president for Graduate Studies, Research and International Programs and professor of biology at CSUN, who passed away on June 6. Johnson, who was appointed to his position in 1988 by then-President James Cleary, was a respected administrator and advocate for students who wished to pursue graduate studies. Johnson is survived by his wife and two adult children. Gifts can be made to the CSUN Foundation to support the Mack I. Johnson Graduate Research Awards.

Jerome (Jerry) Jacobs
The campus community extends deep condolences to the family of Jerry Jacobs, professor emeritus of journalism, who passed away on June 8. Jacobs was an award-winning broadcast journalist and producer. He joined the Department of Journalism at CSUN as adjunct faculty in 1972 and became an assistant professor on the tenure-track in 1979.  In his time at CSUN, he helped develop the broadcast news curriculum, was the primary instructor and faculty adviser for KCSN-FM’s news operation and launched “Valley View” in 1988. He is remembered by friends and colleagues as a “brilliant, dedicated journalist and educator.”
