Central American Studies Faculty Lecture Series
Jeanne Robertson will be presenting her research on mate preference and the evolution in red-eyed tree frogs in Sierra Tower 703 from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Robertson is an evolutionary biologist interested in microevolutionary processes that mediate population and lineage diversification. Specific interests include: natural and sexual selection, spatial patterns of genes, phenotype, and behavior, the evolution and functional significance of color pattern in amphibians and reptiles, population genetics, ecological speciation, and biogeography of Central America.

Bi-Annual Men of Color Enquiry and Student Research Poster Session
Tony Ross, vice president for Student Affairs at California State University, Los Angeles will be the featured speaker on “Unpacking the Systematic Barriers of Black Males in Higher Education” in the University Student Union, Northridge Center from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. This event will also feature students from “AFRS 325: The Black Man in Contemporary Times” presenting research posters on their work concerning black men.

Flawless Black Women and Body Image Discussion Panel
Please join the Department of African Studies and Sistahood for a conversation about this important topic in the University Student Union, Northridge Center from 12:30 to 2 p.m. The event will feature a panel of CSUN professors discussing how black women view their bodies and how they are portrayed in the media.

CSUN’s China Institute Lecture Series
The China Institute and the College of Humanities will bring you a colorful demonstration of the power and magic of Chinese medicine in the Conference Room ED1214/1216 from 11 to 12:30 p.m., with a focus on acupuncture and herbal medicine, for your health and happiness in life. It will be presented by Prof. Carol Ma from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Dr. Hongyan Li, a California Board Certified Acupuncturist with over 29 years of clinical experiences in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.

Bianchi Planetarium
Come and learn about stars, constellations and planets visible in the sky during this time of the year at the Autumn and Winter Sky Show, which takes place at 7:30 p.m. It is followed by Hubble Vision show at 8:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $6 for one show and $10 for two shows; students are $4 for one show and $7 for two shows.

California Dance Academy and Dance Ensemble Presents the Nutcracker
California Dance Academy and Dance Ensemble combines academy students, pre-professional dancers, and professional guest dancers into an entertaining cast which to perform the Nutcracker in the Madrid Theater. Attendees will experience a professional ballet with a storytelling choreography that is engaging and inviting to audiences of all ages and levels of familiarity with The Nutcracker. Master of Social Work Information Session
Come find out about CSUN’s Master of Social Work program, offered by CSUN’s Department of Social Work in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, in collaboration with the Tseng College. An information session takes place in Sierra Hall, Whitsett Rm. 451, fourth floor, 6:30-8 p.m. Faculty and staff will give an overview about this program, offered on campus, online and off-site at college of the Canyons in Santa Clarita to those with a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field. The 2015 Faculty Retreat, “CSUN: Celebrating Diversity” will be held Jan. 12-13, 2015. The first day will be on the CSUN campus with the usual schedule. Bone Marrow Registry Drive
CSUN will host a Bone Marrow Donor Registry Drive, on Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Redwood Hall, West Patio. Only individual ages 18 to 44 can donate.
Acting Faculty President
Philosophy professor Adam Swenson will serve as acting Faculty President during Shane Frehlich’s absence. Swenson is the vice president of the association and professor Terri Lisagor of Family and Consumer Sciences is the secretary.
Service on Faculty and University Committees and Boards
Faculty who would like to be considered for election or appointment to positions in faculty governance, to standing or advisory committees of the Faculty Senate, or to various all-university committees and boards are invited to complete the University Service Form on the Faculty Senate website. To be considered for the spring faculty elections, please submit the form to the Faculty Senate Office by Jan. 20, 2015.

Campus Pet Food Drive
For the third year, CSUN cat people, a group of students, staff and faculty who care for the feral cat colony on campus and practice trap-neuter-release (tnr), is holding a campus-wide pet food drive during the month of November 2014. We need donations of fresh, unopened dry and canned cat and dog food. Beginning November 3, collection boxes will be placed in xx department and program offices throughout the campus. Cat food will be used to maintain our cat colony on campus; dog food and any leftover cat food will be donated to a local no-kill rescue group. The pet food drive is a service-learning project for students from a number of classes this semester.

Deadlines
Dec. 17
December Payroll Distribution
December pay warrants will be distributed in the lobby of Bayramian Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 31 from noon to 2 p.m. A form must be filled out and delivered to University Cash Services by Dec. 17. The form is available at University Cash Services. A CSUN photo ID is required in order to release your pay warrant. Employees unable to pick up checks may authorize someone to do so, in writing. Include the name of the authorized person, the employee’s department, the last four digits of the employee’s Social Security number and the employee’s signature. Uncollected checks will be available for department pick-up from noon-4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.
