Matador Hoops Alumna and TV Personality Invites Community to Campus Fitness Event
Former Matador women’s basketball player and Hallmark Channel “Mommy Fitness Expert” Kristin (Anderson) Smith ’05 (Communication Studies) was given the task of helping find the perfect location for a Los Angeles-area mini-fitness expo.
Easy choice — she picked home.
Smith will co-host Fit Day LA on Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 9 a.m. on the turf field near Zelzah Avenue and Prairie Street.
“I was looking through locations, and CSUN has improved so much since I left,” Smith said. “It’s beautiful. The Student Recreation Center is beautiful. The fields out in front are so beautiful.”
Fit Day LA is an event where celebrity trainers will man and coach five different workout stations. The trainers include former WNBA star Chantelle Anderson, U.S. Olympic volleyball silver medalist and model Kim Glass and “personal trainer to the stars” Nick Iadonisi. Iadonisi’s wife Jackie is co-hosting the event with Smith.
The cost for the event is $5. “To get coached by celebrity trainers usually costs $100,” Smith said.
One hundred percent of the event proceeds will go toward sending and supporting Christian mission teams worldwide through the City of Angels International Christian Church’s “Crown of Thorns Project.”
The day will include a DJ, raffles, food and fitness product vendors at the event.
“It’s a fun fitness morning on a Saturday,” Smith said. “When I was on campus, I would have loved to wake up and come down for this.”
The event encompasses all of Smith’s passions: CSUN, fitness and community work. The former basketball player appears on the Hallmark Channel’s morning show Home & Family, teaching moms how to nurture their mind and body. She also attends City of Angels International Christian Church.
