“The Volunteer Service Awards event provides a way to recognize and thank those who selflessly give their time and resources to help fulfill Cal State Northridge’s mission,” said D.G. “Gray” Mounger, assistant vice president for Alumni Relations.

The association is accepting nominations for the Dorothea “Granny” Heitz Award for Outstanding Volunteer Leadership, Dean Ed Peckham Award and the Volunteer Service Awards, which usually reflect multiple candidates selected by the university’s colleges, administrative offices and alumni chapters.

The Dorothea “Granny” Heitz Award for Outstanding Volunteer Leadership is named in honor of the late Granny Heitz, CSUN’s beloved “eternal” spirit leader and founder of the “Granny Girls” spirit squad. It is annually presented to alumni or friends who serve the university as outstanding volunteer leaders. The deadline for nominations is Monday, Aug. 12.

The Dean Ed Peckham Award is given annually to an emeritus or retired member of the faculty or staff who continues to contribute to the CSUN community and is a wonderful example of this commitment to the university. Peckham, who served as vice president of student affairs and dean of students during a 24-year career at San Fernando Valley State College and then Cal State Northridge. After retiring in 1991, Peckham remained close to the university, volunteering his time with the Alumni Association and finding new ways to support students. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Aug. 16.

The Volunteer Service Award recipients are selected by the university’s colleges, administrative offices and alumni chapters. The honorees are selected based on the demonstration of a high degree of character, integrity, leadership and loyalty. They have provided service to the campus and its affiliates over an extended period of time, supporting CSUN with time and resources. There is no cost to submit a selection. The deadline is Friday, Aug. 16.

Faculty, staff, administrators and alumni can submit their nominations and selections to the CSUN Alumni Association www.csunalumni.com at VSA@csun.edu.
