California State University, Northridge’s Department of Police Services will show off their tough but lovable K-9 Unit dogs at the second-annual “Meet the Dogs” fundraiser on Wednesday, April 15.

Members of the public and the campus community will get an opportunity to meet the dogs that work alongside law enforcement officers, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on CSUN’s Bayramian Lawn. CSUN’s own K-9 dogs, Isy and Mitch — along with several other local law enforcement dog units — will demonstrate the dogs’ proficiency in narcotics and explosives detection, as well as a demonstration of search and rescue, tracking and handler protection techniques.

“Our various partners from throughout the area will include search and rescue dogs and general law enforcement K-9s,” said CSUN Police Capt. Alfredo Fernandez, head of patrol operation.

The event has become a yearly occasion to bring awareness to the community about the great work the dogs do, and to support police services by selling CSUN Police Department K-9 merchandise, including T-shirts and plush K-9 dog toys. There also will be photo opportunities with the dogs. All proceeds support the CSUN K-9 unit, and cash donations are tax deductible.
