Big Week at The Matadome

Plenty of action will take place at The Matadome this week as the Men’s Volleyball and Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams take to the court from Wednesday to Saturday. All CSUN students receive free admission with a valid CSUN ID so come out and show your support for CSUN Athletics!

Wed, Feb. 17: Men’s Volleyball vs. UC Irvine, 7 p.m. and Feb. 19 vs. UC San Diego, 7 p.m.

Men’s Volleyball (8-5 overall, 3-5 MPSF) begins the week with a big game against conference opponent UC Irvine. Led by freshman Dimitar Kalchev, sophomore middle blocker Josiah Byers and junior Jakub Ciesla, the 11th-ranked Matadors have shown flashes of brilliance, including two big victories over USC earlier in the season. Kalchev, Byers and Ciesla have combined for 362 kills so far this year.

On Friday, the Matadors will also play host to UC San Diego at 7 p.m.

Thur, Feb. 18: Men’s Basketball vs. Hawaii, 7 p.m.

Men’s Basketball (9-16 overall, 4-7 Big West) will be in for a tough challenge against the conference-leading Hawaii Rainbow Warriors  (20-3 overall, 9-1 Big West).  CSUN will rely on its guards Kendall Smith (16.1 points per game) and Micheal Warren (13.8 points per game) to slow down Hawaii’s fast-paced offense.

The first 500 fans at The Matadome will receive free “Blackout” T-shirts and Sports Chalet Mystery Cards.

Sat, Feb. 20: Women’s Basketball vs. Cal Poly, 4 p.m.

 Women’s Basketball (6-18 overall, 4-6 Big West) will conclude the week with an important matchup against the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs. Since losing to Cal Poly on Jan. 21, the young Matadors have won four of their last six games. Two-time Big West Conference Player of the Week Channon Fluker leads the Matadors with 11.4 points per game and 9.4 rebounds.

The first 100 Matador Kids Club members receive free ice cream, the first 250 fans receive free CSUN Camouflage T-shirts and the first 500 fans receive Sports Chalet Mystery Cards.
