Senior Weekend for CSUN Soccer Teams, Oct. 29-30
Both the California State University, Northridge Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams has seen success on the field this season thanks in large part to the leadership and contributions of the senior class.
The women’s team, graduating nine players, is an impressive 9-4-5 this season and is in first place in the Big West Conference with three games left to play.
2 Kyla Diekmann (Forward)
From Torrance, Calif. She’s appeared in six games this season and tallied an assist as a junior last season. She is majoring in psychology.
4 Briana Geffre (Defense)
From Norwalk, Calif. She’s appeared in 18 games this season and scored her first career goal against South Dakota on Aug. 28. Geffree played a big part in helping goalkeeper Jovani McCaskill set a school-record 13 shutouts so far this year. She is majoring in kinesiology.
5 Camille Watson (Midfielder/Forward)
From San Leandro, Calif. Watson scored three goals and tallied four assists in 18 games this season. Two of those came in back-to-back games against Marquette and Omaha on Sept. 18 and 25. She is majoring in business law.
7 Kourtney Kutscher (Midfielder/Forward)
From Temecula Valley, Calif. Kutscher has notched two goals and one assist in 18 games this season. As a junior, she recorded six goals. She is majoring in psychology and her twin sister, Krystal, is also a senior midfielder.
10 Sylvia Trinh (Midfielder)
From San Diego, Calif. Trinh has scored two goals and recorded four assists in 18 games this season. Trinh’s goal against Portland State on Aug. 19 was the game winner. She is majoring in electrical engineering.
12 Krystal Kutscher (Midfielder)
From Temecula Valley, Calif. Kutscher has appeared in 17 games this season. Kutscher joined her sisters Kourtney and Lindsey last year after two seasons at Cal State Los Angeles. She is majoring in business management.
15 Taylor Hobson (Midfielder)
From Woodland Hills, Calif. Hobson has appeared in 18 games, scoring one goal and dishing out two assists. Hobson was named to the 2014 All-Big West first team and is majoring in child and adolescent development.
23 Breanna McCallum (Midfielder)
From Las Vegas, Nevada. McCallum has two assists in 16 games this season. She is majoring in accounting.
24 Nicole Thompson (Defense)
From Granada Hills, Calif. Thompson has been a key contributor for the Matadors’ stout defense. She was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 17 and has one goal and one assist in 18 games. She is majoring in structural engineering.
The men’s team, graduating seven players, will play its Senior Day on Oct. 29 against UC Riverside. The Matadors are 4-2-2 in Big West play this season and are in first place in the Big West South division.
1 Kevin Marquez (Goalkeeper)
From Santa Ana, Calif. Marquez has 82 saves and two shutouts this season in 16 games. He is majoring in sociology.
4 Gabe Robinson (Defense)
From Valencia, Calif. Robinson has played a key role in the Matadors’ defense the past four seasons. In 15 games this season, Robinson has one goal and one assist. He is majoring in kinesiology.
12 Shane Steffes (Defense/Midfielder)
From Lancaster, Calif. Steffes has appeared in 14 games this season. Steffes scored his first goal of the season against UC Irvine on Oct. 22. He was named CSUN’s 2015 Men’s Big West Scholar of the Year. He is majoring in psychology.
15 Juan Fernando Samayoa (Midfielder)
From Simi Valley, Calif. Samayoa leads the Matadors with six goals this season, two of which came against UC Davis on Sept. 29. He also leads the team with four assists. Samayoa is majoring in finance, financial planning and insurance.
21 Richard Martinez (Forward)
From Van Nuys, Calif. Martinez scored his first goal of the season in a 2-1 win over Air Force on Sept. 4. He is majoring in kinesiology.
23 Patrick Hickman (Defense)
From Columbia, SC. Like Robinson, Hickman was a key contributor to the Matadors’ defense. He scored three goals this season and was named a 2015 Big West Honorable Mention. He is majoring in business law.
30 Joel Luis Juan (Goalkeeper)
From North Hollywood, Calif. Though he has yet to appear in a game, Juan has worked alongside and helped to prepare the team during his only year at CSUN.
